SIP calculator, with the working shown

What a monthly SIP grows to when every instalment is paid at the start of its month, with a step-up each year if you like, and what starting later costs when the end date stays the same.

Start-of-month instalments · monthly compounding · reviewed 13 Oct 2026

Whole rupees. The example is Pocket's sample person's two SIPs, ₹10,000 and ₹8,000 a month.

Whole years, 1 to 50.

An assumption, not a promise: 0 to 30.

How much more each year's instalment is; 0 for a flat SIP.

For what starting later costs, to the same end date.

What you type stays in this page: the sums run in your browser, and nothing is sent anywhere.

The rules it follows

  • Paid at the start of the month. Each instalment grows for the month it is paid in, as a SIP debited on the 5th does. A calculator that pays at the end of each month shows less for the same SIP.
  • An annual return, compounded monthly. 10% a year is (1 + 10%)1/12 − 1, about 0.7974% a month, so twelve months come to exactly 10%.
  • A step-up after every twelfth instalment. With a 10% step-up, months 13 to 24 are 10% more than months 1 to 12, and so on.
  • Starting later keeps the end date. Starting 12 months later means 12 fewer instalments, ending on the same day; the cost is the difference between the two values.

What it assumes

  • The same return every month. Real returns vary from month to month, and a fund's can be negative for years.
  • No tax, exit load or stamp duty is taken off; the return is after the fund's expense ratio.
  • Every instalment is paid; none is skipped.

These are the sums Pocket's Goals page runs, and its SIPs are paid the same way.
